It was announced this morning that Felix Dennis has died. The hugely successful publisher had been suffering from cancer.
He was one of the publishers of Oz magazine in the 1960s and was famously cleared in an obscenity trial in 1971, where his defence QC was John Mortimer, of Rumpole fame.
He was by definition a risk taker and built up a huge publishing empire in the 80s and 90s. He enjoyed his wealth and success and lived life to the full.
He wrote several books in later life and famously said ' if it floats, flies or fornicates you should rent, never buy' , A somewhat old fashioned attitude as far as the final f goes but it sums him up well.
